Acer for Kids

Acre is a city where the interests of parents and kids meet. Children won’t be able to resist the lure of the secret Templar escape tunnels and the passageways and chambers of the Knights Halls.

Kids love the water and everyone will want to see the lovely ancient city of Akko from the sea by taking a boat tour of the harbor. Acre boasts golden beaches which provide great opportunities for sunbathing, swimming and some water sports. Check-out the popular Purple Beach for more splendid views of the city and beach activities.

Rosh-Hanikra

About 21 kilometers north of Acre is the extremely popular site of Rosh Hanikra. For thousands of years the crashing waves of the sea have been carving out grottos in the limestone cliffs of Israel’s northern coast.
These grottoes or caves are truly a natural wonder and amazingly beautiful at all day long and at all times of the year. The path through the grottoes is about 200 meters long with lighting along its entire length making evening visits possible.


Winter visits

Winter is an exciting time at Rosh Hanikra when the stormy season provides a spectacular show of the power of wind and water as they create powerful waves that make explosive rushing sounds as they smash into the caves. 
During the height of the strongest storms, the high winds cause the spray from the waves to rise as high as 35 meters or more over the cliff’s edge.
A stormy cloudy day with wind and rain provides a unique and awesome natural experience.

The Cable Car 
Rosh Hanikra boasts the steepest cable car ride in the world! Most visitors choose to descend to the grottoes on this spectacular ride. The excitement of the trip lasts about two minutes each way. Descending rapidly from a height of 70 meters and at the steep angle of 60 degrees you will have to have your camera at the ready to capture the magnificent view of the sea!

Sound and Light Show
The sound and light show theater has been carved into the side of the mountain rock and where visitors thrill to the story of the grottoes and learn about  the ancient legend, understand the grotto formation processes, become acquainted with the wildlife in the area,  and experience the greatness of the forces of nature. The show includes a virtual tour of the grottoes and the story of the railway tunnel built by the British. It lasts about 15 minutes and is offered in several languages.

The Small Train
Kids and parents just love the ride on the small train which runs along an especially lovely route beautiful path from Rosh Hanikra to Achziv and back, travelling along  the path of the railroad track used during the time of the British Mandate. The ride includes an explanatory narrative and takes about 40 minutes. .

The Promenade  
For walking enthusiasts there is a charming promenade along the ancient track that became the British railroad track. The path is paved and equipped with benches that allow for walkers from 4 to 84 to enjoy a leisurely stroll and enjoy the sea views. 

Take walk along the waterfront for glimpses of the flora and fauna. See the lovely coastal inlets and small eddies some dating from Phoenician times and and used for the support of their industries that included salt-drying, places for holding the snails used to  produce their distinctive pale blue and purple dyes, and for quarries that supplied rocks for buildings and wine presses.
Continue into the Rosh Hanikra nature reserve and arrive at the "Batzet" coast, an exceptionally lovely Israeli beach where giant sea turtles arrive year after year to lay their eggs.Finally arrive at the monument honoring the “illegal” Jewish immigration to the land of Israel during the British Mandate. The monument is constructed from the broken pieces of the ships used to bring in the immigrants and refugees.
