Eilat sits at the southernmost part of Israel, on the clear blue, waters of the Red Sea.
The sun always shines in Eilat, and the temperature almost never gets below 70F (21c). It is a perfect spot for a winter holiday, if you are trying to leave the cold and miserable winters of Europe.  The sun shines, the water is a deep blue, the surrounding granite mountains are reddish, and the sky is usually clear!  In the summer, the temperature can soar to over 98F.  The sea is deliciously cool.   During the winter, it is almost too cold to swim in the sea, but all the hotels, and there are many have heated pools, and it is definitely warm enough to sit with a swim suit and get slowly tanned!  Eilat seems like an oasis…. Far away from Israel proper… here politics almost don’t invade… here one gets the illusion of paradise!  Sometimes, it’s not even an illusion… it really is paradise.  Just to sit and contemplate the tropical sea is dreamlike, and one feels far away from the reality of daily life.

Eilat is also known as a great place to party at night, with lots of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.  It is also a great place for shopping, because the city is a free trade zone, with no VAT

Eilat is Israel’s most favored holiday resort, and is extremely popular with foreign visitors and its proximity to the desert, and the various tours make it an interesting spot to vacation.  The beauty of the beaches and the spectacular underwater coral reefs make it a perfect spot for diving, and if this is not your “thing” there are glass bottom boats for you to see it all, without even getting wet!

The bay of Eilat is the major attraction, the gorgeous beaches, and the well developed water sports, with some of the best diving spots in the world, the underwater corals, with its myriads of colorful tropical fish.  All are a must.  There is a great underwater observatory where one feels that the fish are in the sea… and YOU are being observed!  Amazing!

One can swim with dolphins, take diving lessons, snorkel around the corals… take a boat and slowly float along the coast towards the Egyptian or Jordanian borders.  Some boats offer the opportunity of having a great barbequed fish lunch, whilst drifting along!  You can also snorkel from the boats, its all pure heaven.

The city boasts a theme park, based on bible stories, which is great for the entire family; there are bazaars, classical and jazz music festivals throughout the year.  There is a film festival and lots of other leisure time activities.

Petra, the “pink city, half as old as time” is a day trip away from Eilat, and there are tours every day.  Visas to Jordan are issued on the border.

There are jeep rides into the desert to see the monastery of Santa Katarina, and get a feel of what a real desert feels like.  For the adventurous there is rappelling on the desert mountains, or mountain biking.

Eilat offers it all, and it is a superb spot for both relaxing and touring.
