The City of Herzliya was named after Theodor Herzl the father of modern Zionism.  It was founded in 1924 by seven pioneering families and officially became a city in 1960.

The city boasts some of the finest beaches in Israel, and combined with its proximity to Tel Aviv, has made it popular with the country's elite.   The area near the beach, Herzliya Pituach, is home to many diplomats and wealthy Israelis.

Herzliya has something for everyone – sandy beaches, sports facilities, modern marina, historical sites and a modern hi-tech industrial center surrounded by shopping malls and gourmet restaurants.

Herzliya is in the center of the country and is an ideal base from which to explore the rest of Israel.

Herzliya Beach:

The Herzliya Beach is one of the cleanest and well preserved beaches Israel has to offer.   A new promenade stretches along the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean Sea.   This part of sea is divided into seven beaches, each unique and meeting the preferences of different people.

Herzliya Marina:   

The Herzliya Marina began operating in 1995 and the complex includes a shopping center, marina-side dining and entertainment and sports fields. The Herzliya Marina is the largest marina in Israel and provides moorings for yachts of all sizes, including several berths for mega yachts up to 60 meters in length

Herzliya Sports & Activities :   

Herzliya is a perfect place for water sports enthusiasts; surfing, kite surfing, paragliding as well as tennis and squash.  The Gash Golf Club is just a 15 minute drive from Herzliya.   This challenging golf course runs a length of 2700 meters with alternating wind directions from the Mediterranean Sea that blows across the course.

Herzliya Historic Sites :


The Apollonia Ancient Ruins are located on a rocky cliff overlooking the sea in Herzliya.  The original settlers were from the Persian Empire and later exiled by Christian Crusaders. These Crusaders fought and lost control of Apollonia to the Muslims led by Bybers the Sultan who destroyed Apollonia that was never rebuilt.

Tel Michal - This ancient hillside faces the Marina and offers archaeological finds from different eras of history. In 117 B.C. this hillside was a central location for trading goods from countries like Egypt and Cyprus.

The Sidna-Ali Mosque - This mosque has an incredible view to the sea and is home to the grave of Ali-Eban-Ali. This mosque is believed to have been one of the homes to Mohamed and his family.

Herzliya Nightlife :


The city which arguably comes second after Tel Aviv as a center for Israeli nightlife is Herzliya.   In the past decade, Herzliya has grown to boast not only some of the best restaurants in the county, but also some of the best resto-bars, bar lounges, pubs and dance bars.  In the evenings, the Herzliya industrial Zone and Marina is crowded with people looking to eat, dance and drink.
